Giants Green Bay Mayhem in the News…

While the Green Bay police made 11 arrests and ejected 36 people from Lambeau Field Sunday, according to the Green Bay Pressgazette.com, the arrests did not forestall disorder on the field.

Steve Serby, of the New York Post put it this way:

“The Good Ship Coughlin is sinking in this blizzard of ineptitude …The disintegration of the Giants is stunning and it is inexcusable.... It left them stranded on Crisis Island, clueless, shaken and shell-shocked, far from the playoff shores.”

“One week ago the Giants had their fate in their hands, a virtual lock on a playoff berth and the keys to the NFC East title in their grasp,” noted Ralph Vacchiano of The Big Blue Screen.

But, “They let that destiny slip right out of their buttery fingers,” Vacchiano added.

Gary Meyers of the NY Daily News reported that the “Lambeau Field locker room…was the scene…of a team dazed, confused and beaten as its season has fallen apart.”

Coach Tom Couglin’s press was no better than the team’s.

“The head coach seemed drained of life in his postgame news conference,” reported Steve Poli of The Star Ledger. “He lacked the fire and determination he has shown after other defeats. He looked like a man who was out of answers,” Poli continued.

Even the Liberal “gotcha” media took a swipe at the Gmen while simultaneously referencing its environmental agenda.

“Jacobs, a human Hummer, crossed into Green Bay Packers territory in the third quarter,” pined Karen Crouse in the Fifth Down column in the NYT.

“While being tackled, Jacobs was stripped of the ball, and as it bounced free, the Giants’ grip on the playoffs became looser,” Crouse continued.

Speaking of perspective, not all media outlets saw the wintery game in negative light.

“Maybe this was an omen. After all, coming into the season, no one thought these Eagles had a snowball's chance,” Phil Sheridan of the Philadelphia Inquirer wrote.

Defensive tackle Barry Cofield may have summed it up best.

"I didn't think it could get worse than last week. That was more stunning but this is just disappointing," Cofield said as reported by Hank Gola in The NY Daily News.

"You can't keep going out there and having bad performances and keep saying, 'We'll get it right,'” Cofield continued.
