Remember the ROCKY movie where after winning the Title
and preparing to retire, the Italian Stallion learns that Clubber Lang’s subsequent
Title win may have involved cheating?
Here’s how Roger Ebert characterized the plot:
“It's about heroism and realizing your potential, about
taking your best shot and sticking by your girl.”
Contrast that with the current battle to keep private
communications by a Superbowl MVP QB and his equipment guys when the League was
looking into problems at a marquis game.
By way of background, the Patriots owner had suspended two
employees without pay on May 6.
Interestingly, one of the guys suspended referred to
himself as the “Deflator” but it was explained this way in a rebuttal to the
Well’s report:
“The word ‘deflate’ simply means to reduce, and
has many possible meanings and applications. A simple Internet search reveals a frequent use of the word “deflate” in the context of weight
loss.”
Perhaps the guy who prepared Patriots footballs for
inspection by NFL officials was a “weight
loss” enthusiast. And, maybe he simply wanted
to share his enthusiasm for diet and fruit when he said, “F#@$ tom….make sure
the pump is attached to the needle…..f#@$in watermelons coming.”
However, one definition for deflate, (the first one) is, “let air or gas out of (a
tire, balloon, or similar object).”
Text messages to and from the Patriot’s suspended
staff may have had exculpatory information.
But, we may never find out because… Tom Brady routinely destroys his broken
android phone when switching to iPhone?
Brady’s lawyers may use the Fine Print to reduce his sanctions, but on November 15, expect the Big Blue Wrecking Crew to be chasing Brady
down like a Dentist chasing Cecil the Lion.
