This week the Roundup received an e-mail from "Longhorn" who said:
I feel like the Vikings with Tavaris Jackson could rebound like the Cowboys with Jason Garrett. We'll have to continue to play with emotion and execute well. Solid, respectable showing against a below-average Redskins team though...
There are about 24 quarterbacks in the NFL I'd rather NOT face instead of Tavaris Jackson, but you can count on Brett Favre starting, so it's moot. Sidney Rice does appear to be back to his old tricks, so we'll see how we match up with their offense. It should be interesting.
It is amazing how pre-season favorites Minnesota and Dallas have imploded, fired their respective head coaches and now are winning as they conclude their "lame duck" sessions. They will play a HUGE part in determining the NFC playoff picture.
MIN still plays NYG, CHI and PHI. DAL plays Philly twice still...too bad Dez Bryant broke his foot.
With the Giants up to 5.5 yards per carry, my biggest long term fear is that we'll lose Offensive Line coach, Pat Flaherty. What a job he's doing.
Steve Smith should play this week, but his pectoral injury is still sore. He'll have to play with a harness and won't be able to handle the bump and run too well. Smith can expect to get pushed around at the line and have some range of motion issues, which means Eli had better hit him in the bread basket when targeting him.
Derek Hagan has proven he can make plays on the edge, so I wouldn't be surprised if Hagan and Mario Manningham get split out wide in 3WR sets with Smith in the slot. We did enough on the perimeter in the passing game to give the running game some breathing room.
Minnesota is 4th in the NFL in rush defense. (3.6 YPC, 92 YPG). They are 12th in passing defense (210 YPG). We're still 4th in total offense, with the injuries dragging us down from #1.
No line on the game yet, because the oddsmakers are waiting on Favre's status. Count on the Giants being a less-than-three-point favorite @ Minnesota.
