Everyone was ready for the New York Giants to make a run at improving their ball club. The NFL is very competitive. The best rule of thumb is to always stay locked and focused on your own team and their needs...The NY Giants to this point have barely made an impact on their 2011 team...[and,] The space between the Eagles and Giants is growing larger and larger.
We're doing a fantastic job. David Baas is EXACTLY what we need. Steve Weatherford was an AWESOME upgrade from Matt Dodge, who was a disaster last year.
These bloggers are too interested in fantasy football and not interested in the Giants' situation. We let the 2010 draft come to us and acquired some guys who can really impact the team this year in Prince Amakumura, Marvin Austin and Jerrel Jernigan (who may be the next Joshua Cribbs).
We have handled our salary cap problems beautifully. Ultimately, it looks like Umenyoria, Bradshaw and Boss will have to come crawling back to us...and we will have continuity with lots of returning players in this abbreviated pre-season period.
Let's not forget the Giants were a pretty good team last year. We had trouble getting a hard yard late in games when we could have salted the game away. I'm sorry, but that was O'Hara's fault. Nice guy. Nice beard. Bad player at this age. We have addressed that with David Bass...one of the strongest linemen in the NFL. Beatty is our guy at LT. We have one of the biggest, strongest OLs in football.
On defense, we led the NFL in takeaways with 39. Furthermore we had 34 forced fumbles. The next best team had 25 and the NFL average was only 15. We had 23 fumble recoveries. Next best in the NFL was 18 and the average was 10. We have a vicious defense and we have brought back virtually everyone...except Barry Cofield.
Let's not also forget that we limped home with injuries at WR down the stretch, leaving Derek Hagan as our starting split end (opposite Manningham). With Smith and Nicks down, we were actually forced to target Hagan 43 times in the last 7 games.
We're going to be a good team this year!
My two concerns out of our 22 starters are LT Will Beatty and OLB Clint Sintim. They are both 3rd year guys we drafted, finally getting their shot to be the starter. And, of course, Steve Smith's recovery from micro-fracture surgery and subsequent contract negotiations. Other than that, we're stacked.
