We need to completely sell out
against Green Bay. Blitz constantly. Pass almost every down.
Go for it on 4th and short. We need to resign to the fact that
Green Bay is going to score almost every time they get the ball. I'd rather
see them score quickly and keep our pass rushers fresh. On 4th and 2 from
mid field...I'd rather go for it. The upside is resuscitating a
scoring drive, the downside is yielding a 50-yard GB TD drive instead of an
80-yard GB TD drive.
We need to hang our nuts out.
The time for conservative play calling is passed.
By the way...Only TWO QBs in history
have thrown for 5,000 yards in a season. Dan Marino in 1984 (5,084) and
Drew Brees in 2008 (5,069). Brees, Brady and Rodgers are all on pace to
EASILY break these records. Eli even has a chance if he throws up another
400 spot like he did on MNF. Throw in the assumption that a healthy
Peyton would be in this class and it's easy to draw the conclusion that the
game is changing before our eyes.
All of these rules designed to
protect QBs and defenseless receivers are, in some ways, making the run
irrelevant. Maybe "irrelevant" is too extreme a
description...but I will contend that running the ball is NO LONGER ESSENTIAL
in this league. Especially when you don't have the ability to do it (like
us).
