'Balanced' Look at Arrest of Dallas WR Dez Bryant

By Eeeeeeeeegs

It will be music to my ears to hear Al Michaels' pre-game commentary on Wednesday Night, September 5th.

"And here we are at the new Meadowlands, where the Giants will be hoisting their 4th Lombardi Trophy and 2nd in 4 years under Tom Coughlin.  Looking on in street clothes is Dez Bryant, suspended by Rodger Goodell after having been charged with assaulting his 37-year-old mother in July."

Can you believe she's 37?  He's 23.  Do the math.

As a conservative, unlike my liberal counterparts I do have an obligation to explore both sides of every issue.  So here it goes.

Does anyone remember how the Dolphins were being scrutinized for asking Bryant if his mom was a "prostitute" in their pre-draft interview with him two years ago?  Well, I guess there are reasons to believe there were problems with her.  She's clearly not a model citizen.  There are also reports that Dez Bryant was shouting, "I'm going to end this once and for all" during the altercation.  Also, Bryant's "weapons of choice" have been described as a "hat" and a "ball" ...hardly sufficient implements for the likes of Colonel Mustard, or any truly competent assailant.

Maybe she had hit rock bottom with drugs, prostitution, whatever ...and he was having an intervention with her.  Pushing her, or perhaps hitting/defending himself with a ball or hat to restrain her?  It's not out of the realm of possibility that Dez Bryant was being a good son on this one...throwing a little tough love around.  The situation is embarrassing, nonetheless.

Bryant will not be suspended.  I heard the 911 call.  It sounds like a crazy, drug impaired lady trying to get a 911 operator to help her win an argument with her son.  I believe that's all it was. (Click here for 911 audio.)

(For more information Dez Bryant's situation, check out Dez Bryant Turns Himself In, Arrested on ESPN or The Houston Press which has 911 audio.)

*BBR hopes that there is a healthy outcome for the Bryant family.
