Will Gmen Fly into Trouble @ Atlanta?

Nicks and Cruz Prepare for the Holidays (Footlocker)

The defending Super Bowl champion NY Giants (8-5) will fly into the Georgia Dome this Sunday to air the ball out against QB Matt Ryan, WRs Roddy White, Julio Jones and other members of the Atlanta Falcons (11-2) who are the top seed in the NFC South.

The Giants will be fighting to maintain their precarious one-game lead in the NFC East just ahead of the Redskins and Cowboys  (both are 7-6) for a shot at the playoffs.

The Falcons will be looking for a win to make-up for last year’s playoff loss to the Giants where they were beat 24-2 while the Giants moved one step closer to a Lombardi trophy.  The Falcons will also be fighting for home field advantage which requires them to win 2 of their next 3 games.

The Gmen are coming off a heady 52-27 win over the New Orleans Saints (5-6), while the Falcons will be looking to recover from a 30-20 loss to the Carolina Panthers (4-9) last week.

Jenny Vrentas of The Star Ledger said that while White and Jones are considered the best wide receiver tandem in the NFL that Giants WR Hakeem Nicks would make an argument for another duo of WRs.

“It can be competitive like that,” Nicks told The Star Ledger this evening. ”But at the same time you can’t get into that too much, because you don’t want to just have that mentality going into the game.”  Nicks said that getting into a “receivers’ showdown”  mentality would allow the players to lose true focus which is winning the game.

Both Matt Ryan and WR Victor Cruz are among the top ten candidates in balloting being conducted for the NFL Pro Bowl.
