Playoff Picture is Reason for Optimism...

By Kevin Ptashinski

In an otherwise underwhelming year in the NFL , the playoffs have given me something about which to get excited. A few points to underscore my enthusiasm: 1. The Buffalo Bills are making their first postseason appearance of the century... and the millennium for that matter. 2.  Jacksonville & Tennessee are in the playoffs for the first time since 2007 & 2008, respectively. 3. Four fifths of the old NFC West- circa the late 1990s- have all qualified. 4. Kansas City has demonstrated that it's not how you muck up the middle third of the season after a 5-0 start: it's how you finish. 5.  After a week where record-breaking bitter cold temperatures iced over much of the country, 3 of the 4 wildcard games will be played in warm weather stadiums. That is, unless you count Jacksonville, which this week felt more like East Rutherford USUALLY DOES at this time of year. 6.  His Dallas Cowboys having been eliminated from postseason qualification, we will not have see any shots of Jerry Jones's mug on camera for the entire playoffs. 7.  All the remaining teams teams can breathe a sigh of relief that, for the first time in 9 years, Aaron Rodgers will not be there to dash their hopes of reaching the promised land with his magical quarterbacking escapades. 8.  Mike Tomlin may get yet another chance to prove that Bill Bellichick is a better coach.

(For those who read/liked my previous post about the NFL playoffs I would like to add an addendum:)

9. The Rams are in the playoffs for the first time in THIRTEEN years and after having one of the worst offenses in the league last year, they are actually fun to watch!
